At Pixee, we need open source to do what we do, and we’re not alone. Research out of Harvard Business School by Manuel Hoffmann, Frank Nagle, and Yanuo Zhou estimates the demand-side value of open source to be $8.8 trillion (yes, TRILLION!).
As we leverage tools from the community, we strive to give back wherever possible. Which is why we’re joining Sentry’s Open Source pledge.
About the Pledge
The OSS pledge is a joint effort between a group of companies to pay Open Source maintainers for their work, which benefits us all. The goal of the pledge is to:
“establish a new social norm in the tech industry of companies paying Open Source maintainers, so that burnout and related security issues such as those in XZ and Log4j can become a thing of the past.”
A mission that closely aligns with our values, and has inspired us to join the other companies that have already started to pay their share.
The pledge calls for participating companies to pay $2,000 per FTE developer to Open Source maintainers or foundations, and to commit to doing so in future years. A commitment we have already met, and are proud to continue going forward.
